Cheltenham is a member of the ‘Rugby Group’ – an elite selection of British private schools including the world-famous Harrow, Winchester, Wellington and Radley.
Founded in 1841, Cheltenham is regarded as one of the foremost independent, boys and girls boarding schools in the UK. With both Prep and Senior sections adjacent to each other on a historic campus, Cheltenham provides an outstanding education to pupils between the ages of 3 to 18.
Cheltenham has a long and distinguished connection with the military, dating back to 1863. It is one of only three schools in England to have its own military colours. This connection continues to exist at Cheltenham Muscat whose partner is the Ministry of Defence Pension Fund.
Cheltenham UK’s Achievements
The school has built an enviable reputation for both academic achievement and the breadth of activities offered outside the classroom. Pupils leave with excellent qualifications, enabling entry into first-class universities such as Oxford and Cambridge. Indeed, each year, approximately 10% of its graduates receive offers from Oxford and Cambridge to read highly competitive subjects such as Medicine and History.
Examination Success
As well as preparing pupils for examinations, the curriculum is also designed to help them think independently and creatively, preparing them for the challenges of life after school.
2023 GCSE Results
In 2023, 66% of Cheltenham College pupils achieved a Grade 9 – 7 (A* – A) at GCSE with 44% of the grades being 9 – 8 (A*).
2023 A-Level Results
In 2023, 83% of Cheltenham College pupils achieved a Grade A* – B at A Level of which 59% of pupils were awarded A* – A and nearly a quarter of all pupils were awarded A*.
Inspection
In the school’s most recent inspection by the Independent School Inspectorate (ISI), Cheltenham College was rated “excellent” in every category, this being the highest grade it could receive.
